Man killed and another hospitalised in workplace accident

One man was fatally injured and another was hospitalised following a construction accident in Co Cork on Monday.

It is understood the accident occurred on a construction site close to the Youghal Road in Midleton, Co Cork shortly before lunchtime.

Reports are suggesting that both men were working at the site close to machinery when the accident happened. 

Further details in relation to the full extent of the accident are currently unclear. 

Emergency services and Gardaí responded to the scene, however, it is understood one of the men involved in the accident has suffered fatal injuries as a result of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene before he was removed to Cork University Hospital.

A second man also injured during the incident was transferred to CUH by ambulance. 

It is understood a number of co-workers of both men were also treated at the scene for shock. 

Investigations into the circumstances behind the fatal accident are expected to be launched by Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority.
