Man jumps into Liffey “for a swim” and ends up being arrested
A man who leaped into the River Liffey “for a swim” at 1am this morning was arrested by gardai under the Public Order Act.
The gardai received a call at around 1am reporting a man in the water off Burgh Quay, on the city’s southside.
A member of the public, who assumed the man was in distress, contacted gardai.
Upon arrival officers found that the man was not in any difficulty.
He was retrieved from the water, arrested and brought to Pearse Street garda station.
He was released earlier this morning.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that the man was unharmed and would appear in court next month in relation to the incident.
