Man left to die after Naas Road hit and run
Gardaí in Dublin are investigating the death of a man in his 20s who was killed in a hit-and-run on the Naas dual carriageway.
The hit-and-run victim was struck by a car on the inbound lane of the busy traffic artery at Newlands Cross in the early hours of yesterday.
Gardaí say the man was found on the roadway by another motorist and the vehicle that hit him failed to stop at the scene.
It was not immediately clear why the man was crossing the road at that particular point.
The road was closed for some time yesterday as gardaí carried out investigations.
The man's body remained at the scene overnight covered by plastic sheeting until yesterday morning.
Gardaí in Clondalkin are following a definite line of inquiry in relation to the fatal collision and it is believed CCTV may play a vital role in the investigation.
They are also appealing for witnesses and want to talk to anyone who was travelling either into the city or towards Naas on the dual carriageway, between Newlands Cross and the M50 slip road, between 3am and 4.30am on Sunday who may have noticed a male on or near the roadway.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone who is in a position to assist with the investigation is asked to contact the gardaí at Clondalkin on (01) 666 7600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
