Man in his 80s killed in St Patrick’s Day crash

Gardai are investigating a crash which claimed the life of one man and left two more people in hospital with serious injuries.

The incident occurred at Lufnadeffa, Ballysadare, Co. Sligo at 12.20 pm on St Patrick’s Day.

A man in his 80s, who was a passenger in the car which struck a truck,  was killed in the collision.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 80s, and the van driver, a man in his 50s, were removed from the scene by ambulance to Sligo Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place on the dead man today 18th March.
