A man in his 20s has died in a horrific workplace incident which occurred at a dairy this morning.

The young man was killed in the accident between 10.30 and 11am this morning in Clonakilty in west Cork, Gardai confirmed. 

It is believed the 27-year-old man was crushed to death by an articulated truck at Clona West Cork Foods. 

Emergency services were called but it is understood the man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Gardai have opened an investigation, as have the Health and Safety Authority. 

"The incident is under investigation and the HSA have been notified," a Gardai spokesperson said. 

"The victim received crush injuries when he was trapped between a vehicle and a trailer," a spokesperson for the HSA said. 

"We have begun an investigation and an inspector from the HSA is at the scene."

The scene has been closed off. 

The man's identity has yet to be released.
