Man in critical condition after serious two-car collision

Two cars collided this evening in Cork, which left one man in a critical condition with serious injuries.

A serious road traffic collision between a car and a 4x4 near Togher Village, Co Cork this evening saw one man airlifted to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

The male driver of the car, who is in his 30s, was seriously injured and is now described as being in a critical condition.

The male driver of the 4x4 was also taken to CUH but his injuries are described as non-life threatening.

The collision, which happened at around 5.30pm on Wednesday, occurred two miles east of Togher Village on the Bantry to Crookstown Road R585 (locally known as the Bantry Line).

There was nobody else present in either vehicle.

Gardai in Clonakilty are investigating the collision.

The road is closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination and there are diversions in place.
