Man killed in late-night collision was off-duty garda

A man has died following a single-vehicle collision which occurred last night, gardai have said.

Gardai have launched an investigation into the fatal collision at Wells, Gorey, Co. Wexford. 

Authorities have confirmed the deceased was an off-duty member of An Garda Síochána.

He was stationed at Newtownmountkennedy in Co Wicklow.

A crashed car was discovered by a passing motorist at approximately 11.40 pm, authorities said. 

The driver and sole occupant of the car, an off-duty officer in his 30s, was removed to Wexford General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The scene is preserved and a forensic examination is expected to take place later today.
