A man who was found deceased on a roundabout has been named as it emerges he may have lain there for several days.

Gardai have launched an investigation into the death of Richard Beswick, whose body was found in a crashed car in Galway yesterday.

Authorities in Galway were alerted to the vehicle when a bus passenger spotted a section of the car and notified them.

The car, which turned out to be a red Honda, was almost entirely hidden by trees in the middle of the Martin roundabout on the Oranmore road near the Galway Clinic.

Emergency services were called and the discovery of the body of a man in the vehicle was made.

Friends and relatives of Mr Beswick had set up a Facebook page after he went missing.

"This is our dear friend Richard Beswick which most of you will know as Dickie," a plea on the page read.

"He has been missing since Monday night we are extremely worried and would be greatful of any information about his whereabouts."

Yesterday, a friend posted the following message after the discovery of his body: "Dickie was a great friend and always full of fun it's an awful tragedy for his life to come to an end in this way. Dickie was loved by all and will be sadly missed may he rest in peace."

Gardai are investigating whether Mr Beswick died of injuries he sustained following the collision. They believe he may have lain at the scene for "a number of days".

Investigators are appealing for anybody who may have any information regarding his death to come forward.

The man's remains have been removed to Galway University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.
