The man (36) was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Whilst investigations are at an early stage, it is understood that the motorcyclist died after the bike collided with a nearby barrier at the Charlesland roundabout on the Farrenkelly Road.
It is believed that when the bike hit the barrier, it burst into flames upon impact.
Local councillor Nicola Lawless said that the entire area is devastated by the awful tragedy.
"Even though you might not directly know the person involved, an incident like this affects the whole community," Ms Lawless told the Herald tonight.
"It is tragic for the family and he was such a young person."
Ms Lawless added that the roundabout where the incident occurred would not be known as a blackspot.
The road is closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision examination and local diversions are in place.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact them at Greystones garda station on 01 6665800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any garda station.
