A 62-year-old man died in Donegal on Thursday just 30 minutes after being stung on the lip by a wasp.

The Irish Daily Star report that father of one Fergus McGill collapsed and died after the insect attacked in the village of Convoy on Thursday morning.

Mr McGill arrived at the White Horse Bar complaining of being stung after leaving the nearby post office.

Mr McGill complained of feeling unwell before he collapsed.

A local doctor rushed to the bar but the ex-mechanic was pronounced dead on the scene.

Gardai confirmed that they were called to an incident at the bar but they would not make any further comment.

Local councillor Liam Doherty spoke warmly about Mr McGill.

"Fergus would have had some underlying health issues but he did complain that he had been stung by a wasp just a few minutes before he collapsed.

"It's very sad. He was a lovely man and nobody had a bad word about him. The entire village is in shock."
