Man dies after getting into trouble in water while snorkling

A male snorkler in his late thirties has died after getting into difficulty in the water on Sunday evening.

Two people were in the water at Ardmore, Co Waterford at around 6pm.

The snorklers got into difficulties in the water but one of them managed to make it to the coast where the alarm was raised.

The Coastguard were notified and the rescue helicopter airlifted the man after locating him in the water.

Emergency aid was administered to the man on board the helicopter.

The man was brought to Waterford University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
