A man has been charged in connection with the discovery of a huge amount of cannabis in Dublin.

A Burglary Control Unit on patrol stopped a suspicious looking van on Wednesday and were surprised to find a large amount of drugs in the vehicle.
 
The unit were patrolling an area in Tallaght in Dublin when they spotted a van acting suspiciously. 
 
They stopped and searched the vehicle, and discovered 9 kilos of cannabis herb with a street value of €180,000. 
 
A man was arrested and conveyed to Tallaght Garda station where he was detained under the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 as amended.
 
During follow up searches, the BRU - assited by Tallaght and Blanchardstown Drug Units - discovered 32 kilos of cannabis herb with a street value of €640,000. The raid was carried out at a premises in Blanchardstown, authorities said. 
 
The arrested man is expected to appear at Tallaght District Court this morning.
