Gardai have confirmed the man who was assaulted at Kileen Woods on Wednesday has passed away.

The man was assaulted on Wednesday night in Kileen Woods in Tralee passed away last night and a post mortem will now take place at Tralee General Hospital.

He has been named as Dimitri Hrynkevich, a 24-year-old originally from Russia.

Hrynkevich was a well known figure in the area as he stood over 7ft tall, making him one of Ireland's tallest people.

Gardai have also confirmed that a man in his 20s, arrested in connection with the attack, has been released without charge.

On Friday morning another man arrested in connection with the assault was released without charge.

Investigations are ongoing and investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

They are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Kileen Woods at the time of the incident to contact them.
