Man assaulted in Dublin yesterday has passed away
The 57-year-old man assaulted in Harold's Cross in the early hours of Saturday morning has died and a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The South Dublin man had celebrated his retirement party in Harold’s Cross on Friday evening but at some stage had become separated from his pals.
Witnesses described how, at approximately 4 am on Saturday morning, he became involved in an altercation involving a man and a woman outside the Parkview Apartments in Harold’s Cross.
It is believed that eyewitnesses reported seeing the man being struck a single time before he fell to the ground.
Investigators believe he struck his head off the ground as he fell causing him to sustain serious head injuries in the process.
Sources say that it appears the man and woman left the scene in the immediate aftermath and may not have realised how seriously he was injuried.
He was rushed from the scene by ambulance to James Hospital where he was placed on life support yesterday.
Gardai issued a statement this afternoon confirming the man had passed away.
The man in his late 50s that was injured in the serious assault that occurred on Harolds Cross Road in Dublin at 4 a.m. on the 5th March, has passed away this morning, Sunday 6th March, 2016.
A man, early 40s, was arrested this morning in relation to this fatal assault and is currently detained under Section 4, CJA at Terenure Garda Station.
