Gardai invesigating the shooting of Eddie Hutch have arrested a man in his 30s.

A male aged in his 30s has been arrested by gardai investigating the murder of Eddie Hutch at Poplar Row, Dublin 3 on February 8, 2016.

The man was arrested earlier today in the Dublin area and is currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at Mountjoy garda station.

The man can be detained for up to seven days.

It is the first arrest in connection with the murder which was ordered in retaliation to the fatal shooting of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel just three days earlier.

Eddie Hutch Snr was gunned down at his family home on Poplar Row at around 7.45pm on February 8.

The brazen shooting took place despite the fact extra armed gardai had been deployed to the streets of Dublin to prevent further bloodshed following the Regency attack.

A four-man death squad burst into the house and murdered Eddie Hutch Snr, the brother of notorious gangland figure Gerry 'the Monk' Hutch, according to sources.

Investigating gardai are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to contact the incident room at Mountjoy garda station on 01 666 8600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1 800 666 111 or any garda station.
