Man arrested in connection with vicious robbery of 89-year-old woman
Gardai have arrested a man in connection with the robbery of an 89-year-old woman on the 2nd of August at Rossbrien Road, Limerick.
The woman was hospitalised after she was viciously beaten and robbed outside her home.
Her attacker made off with just €20, leaving the elderly woman to die.
The incident occurred as the elderly woman was returning from the local bingo hall.
Reports indicate that the attacker was waiting outside the house and hid as the taxi, which dropped the woman off, left the area before setting upon the pensioner.
The woman was pulled from the front door as she tried to enter her home and dragged around the garden as the attacker tried to steal her handbag.
According to one source, the pensioner was "turned upside down".
The woman suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack.
A 25-year-old man is in custody at Roxboro Rd Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
He is the second person to be arrested in connection with this incident. The male arrested on the 3rd of August was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
