Man arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run released without charge

A man arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run which caused the death of a two-year-old girl has been released without charge.

The 24-year-old Dublin male was arrested by Gardai on Monday after the incident in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. 

Vanessa Siatka (2) was involved in a collision with what Gardai believe was a green Toyota car which was seen "driving erratically" in the vicinity on the day of the hit-and-run. 

A source said that Gardaí are also probing whether the suspect had taken drink and drugs in the run-up to the collision.

Venessa was hit by the car on the North Road near the Ashtown gate.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the young girl was rushed to Temple Street Hospital where her condition was described as being 'serious'. However, she was sadly pronounced dead in the early hours of yesterday morning. 

The suspect was arrested later on the in day by Gardai and taken to Cabra Garda Station for questioning.

Gardai confirmed they released the suspect in the early hours of the morning and are preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
