Man arrested in connection with hit and run on Councillor

A 28-year-old man has been arrested by gardai in connection with a hit and run.

Yesterday Councillor Williy Crowley was struck by a car as he was crossing the street in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

The car failed to stop.

Mr Crowley was rushed to Naas Hospital.

"The pedestrian was seriously injured and was taken to Naas General Hospital where his injuries are described as serious," a Garda spokesperson said.

A man was this evening arrested at a house in Newbridge in connection with the incident.

He is currently detained at Newbridge Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
