Man arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run in Dublin

A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident in the capital.

Gardai in Clontarf investigating the hit-and-run have arrested a man in his 20s in the Dublin area. 

A 62-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a Volkswagen car at the junction of Howth Road and Clontarf Road. 

Eugene Maher (62) of Griffith Down in Whitehall was rushed to hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. 

Gardai later found the vehicle in nearby Marino which was subsequently examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. 

Investigating Gardaí thanked the public who have come forward and assisted them with their investigation to date, and are continuing to appeal for witnesses to contact the incident room.

The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Clontarf Garda Station. He can held for seven days for questioning.
