Man arrested in connection with discovery of bomb making equipment
Earlier this week the bomb squad was called in following the discovery of component parts of an Improvised Explosive Device along with a cache of ammunition.
The bomb making equipment was uncovered during planned searches as part of an operation targeting dissident republicans active in the border regions.
The searches took place at lands and a dwelling in Jenkinstown, Co Louth and involved officers from the Special Detectives Unit and the Dog Unit.
A man aged in his mid-30s has since been arrested in connection with the find and is being held at Dundalk Garda station under the provisions of Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939 as amended.
