Two people aboard the helicopter escaped serious injury when the aircraft clipped the side of a pub and crash-landed.

It is believed the helicopter was attempting to land when it clipped the side of the pub. There is an airfield not too far away.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) confirmed it is due to carry out an investigation into the crash. Gardai said the AAIU were sending investigators to the scene late last night.

It is understood several people in the Rustic Inn received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Local Fine Gael councillor Paul Ross said it was “a miracle no one was hurt” giving the location the crash occurred.

"Between the canal, the road and the hotel building, there is actually very little room to manoeuvre so it really is incredible no one has been reported injured."
