An Islandmagee guesthouse owner was in court today accused of having indecent images of children.

Appearing at Ballymena Magistrates Court, 71-year-old Paul Hackney confirmed he understood the two charges against him, alleging that on 5 June last year, he possessed and made indecent images of a child.

Giving evidence to the court a police constable said he believed he could connect Hackney, part owner of the Owl Cottage self-catering guesthouse and who is from the Gobbins Road in Islandmagee, to each of the allegations.

Hackney was remanded on his own bail of £500 to appear again at Ballymena Magistrates Court on August 18.

He was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 18, unless approved by Social Services and not to own or have access to any device capable of internet connection.

District Judge Des Perry granted legal aid and certified the case as being suitable for the provision of senior defence counsel.
