Irishman Harry Ringwood (48) is being treated in hospital after his Kazakhstani wife was stabbed “at least 40 times” in their Switzerland home.

Ringwood, who is originally from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, was found unconscious and injured beside the body of his murdered wife, Galina Shevchenko (46).

Galina’s body was found on Monday afternoon in the apartment they share in the town of Lutry in Lausanne.

The inspector leading the investigation told the Herald today that the woman was stabbed “at least 40 times” and that there was blood “all over the apartment”.

“It was quite a scene, the woman’s body was found in a pool of blood, and there was blood all over the apartment as well. It was a very horrible death,” he said.

Police officers were this morning interviewing Mr Ringwood at his hospital bed.
