An Irish citizen fell from a balcony during a holiday in Spain, leaving the man severely ill.

The 23-year-old male was discovered by police lying face-down on the ground, having suffered serious wounds to his face and head as well as a knee injury.

Paramedics rushed to the scene at around 3am yesterday morning.

The man, who was staying with his Irish girlfriend at a Costa del Sol apartment block, fell from the balcony after a night out in Marbella.

Police were informed by the man’s girlfriend that he took a 20-foot plunge after losing his balance while out on the balcony, having returned from the night out.

The tragic Irishman was rushed to Marbella’s Costa del Sol Hospital, where he was admitted to an intensive care unit.

Hospital staff did not provide any update on the man’s condition yesterday.

A police inquiry has been opened into the matter, though it is thought that the fall was most likely accidental.

The seriously-injured Irishman is yet to be named.
