Irish hotelier fighting for his life after holiday fall
A leading hotelier is fighting for his life after being placed in an induced coma following a fall in Spain.
Tom Moran is in hospital in Malaga after sustaining head injuries while at the wedding of Charlie Chawke’s daughter Jenny in Puerto Banus.
Mr Moran owns the Red Cow Hotel in Dublin.
The Limerick Leader reports that the father-of-seven fell after the chair he was sitting upon slipped off a ledge. He suffered internal bleeding.
Mr Moran was admitted to hospital in Marbella before he was transferred up the Costa Del Sol to Malaga.
The popular businessman's family members have travelled from Britain and Ireland to hold a constant vigil at his bedside.
Born in Athea, West Limerick and a former Limerick GAA sponsor, Tom was in Spain for the wedding of publican Charlie Chawke’s daughter Jenny, 30 to partner of three years Rory Burgess.
Messages of support from family friends and local people have been flooding in to the Moran family since the accident.
St Munchin's College in the Limerick suburb of Corbally, the rugby team of which Mr Moran's hotel once sponsored, tweeted: "We extend our best wishes to Tom Moran to whom we wish a speedy recovery".
Mr Moran previously owned hotels across Britain. However, he sold the bulk of his group – which comprised Bewley’s Hotels – to Dalata in a €455m deal. But he held onto the landmark Red Cow property after paying €8m.
