Irish EuroMillions winner almost binned ticket

A Bray man who pocketed a cool €500,000 in EuroMillions prize money almost binned his winning ticket before he realised that he had won.

The winner, who has opted to remain anonymous, scooped the EuroMillions Plus Jackpot two weeks ago but didn’t realise it.

“I play EuroMillions every week but wait until the end of each month before checking my tickets,” he said.

“I sat down and checked them last night but initially thought that I hadn’t won anything.

“I was just about to tear up my winning ticket when I remembered that I hadn’t checked the Plus numbers

“I couldn’t believe it when I realised I had won €500,000 – thank goodness I didn’t tear up that ticket.

The lucky winner bought his €12 Quick Pick at the Centra in Glenageary Shopping Centre in Dublin on the 18th of August.

The Wicklow man collected his cheque at the National Lottery offices yesterday.
