Irish actress forced to pull out of role after freak fidget spinner injury
An Irish actress has been forced to pull out of a theatre festival following a freak accident with a fidget spinner.
Ayoola Smart (22) was in Wilton Shopping Centre last week when she was hit in the head by one of the must-have toys.
It is reported today that a child lost control of one of the toys and it struck Smart behind the ear.
The rising star was left with a concussion following the incident and doctors have advised bed-rest for two weeks.
As a result she has had to give up her role in Futureproof, a play from director Tom Creed, due to be staged in the Everyman Theatre as part of the Cork Midsummer festival from June 16-24.
A replacement actress has been drafted in and sources have said Ayoola is devastated to miss out on the chance to star in the play, the Irish Examiner reports.
The actress, who grew up in West Cork but is London based, has appeared on TV shows Holby City and Vera.
She was at home for rehearsals when the bizarre and unfortunate accident occurred.
"It's pretty sad for her, it's her first big gig in her hometown," a source close to the actress told Independent.ie.
Her injury comes as experts are raising red flags about the popular toys.
Customs officers recently seized more than 100,000 of the toys over safety concerns.
