Photos: Inside Penneys new flagship store
Penneys, or Primark as it is known outside of Ireland, has opened its flagship store in Madrid today. And it looks magnificent.
The Irish fashion retailer opened its 41st store in Spain, its 7th in Madrid and the biggest in the country.
The amazing new store covers approximately 133,000 square feet over five floors and is located in the in the historic building of "Almacenes Madrid-Paris' on the Gran Via.
"Spain has been one of our most important markets in Europe since the first store opened in 2006," a spokesperson for Primark said.
"The new Gran Vía store is a key store opening in the company’s business strategy in this country, occupying an historic site in the Spanish capital’s business and commercial hub, Gran Vía."
The building is almost 100 years old, and Primark said they have retained much of the original features including the circular hall at the centre of the building.
Thousands of people thronged the store and queues stretched around the block.
Apparently it's as popular in Spain as it is in Ireland....
