A lost dog has brought a community tighter together than ever before.

Nastro (known as Naz by his loving, bereft family) went missing on February 1 from his home in Delgany, Co. Wicklow – and the hunt and support on social media has proved that community spirit is very much alive in his hometown as hundreds of concerned locals have joined the viral and physical search party.

Since the Facebook page 'Bring Nastro Home' was set up shortly after the distinctive-looking eight-year-old  Samoyed disappeared 19 days ago, it has been flooded with reports of possible sightings and well wishes.

Another Facebook page, The Greystones Open Forum, went into overdrive last night as there was a sighting of a white Samoyed wandering the main street in Arklow. It is very possible that that dog could be Naz.

His owners searched the area late last night, but could not track down the dog. They are appealing to people in the area to keep a lookout for him and to contact them or the local garda immediately.

The online interest in this missing dog has been so overwhelming that one forum member has called for Naz to head the St Partrick’s Day parade in Greystones, should he be found and reunited with his distraught family.

So, help bring Nastro home. His owners say he is a gentle, friendly dog who has been brought up with kids. He has a distinctive pink nose (a Samoyed’s nose is usually black). He is neutered and microchipped, and was wearing a purple collar with ID.

He has been spotted around the Wicklow area, but if he was stolen and dumped he could be in any part of the country.

Phone 086 3855222 or 086 1642512. The owners have offered a E1000 reward (no questions) for his safe return.
