WhatsApp and other similar apps have changed the way we communicate, not just domestically but internationally.

With the advent of instant messaging on mobile phones billions of people around the globe are now contactable at a moment's notice.

And recently WhatsApp announced users would be able to make calls using the app.

We can  check when a friend has seen (or not) a message you've sent, but now you can check which contacts you message the most.

The Daily Telegraph noticed the feature which was added back in June.

The following method only currently works for iOS users, it's unknown whether WhatsApp is planning to introduce the feature for Android, the Telegraph notes.

First go into Settings > Select Account > Select Storage Usage and the total amount of WhatsApps sent can be seen at the top of the page, beginning with the most.

If you click on 'Size' it will show you exactly how much data you have wasted on a single chat.

Also, if you go into Settings > Choose Chats and Calls > Choose Low Data Usage, you will be able to reduce the amount of data used during calls.

WhatsApp has grown exponentially in the last two years and now has over 800 million users worldwide.

In 2015 alone so far it has grown its users by around 100 million.

This remarkable growth is symptom of the diminishing and traditional SMS which has dominated mobile phone use since the 90s.
