Good news as Ryanair cuts baggage fees
Ryanair has cut its baggage fees for the majority of its customers from today onwards, the airline has said.
The company said 92pc of its customers would experience the cuts and that there would be a simplified number of bag fee options.
From today customers on domestic flights under two hours will have their baggage fees cut by 50pc while customers on all other flights under three hours will see savings of up to 17pc.
Customers on flights lasting more than three hours will see no change in their checked baggage fees.
Now a 15kg bag on a domestic flight for under two hours will cost €15, down from the previous price of €30. A 20kg bag, on the same flight, will now cost €25, down from €40.
On flights lasting less than three hours a 15kg bag will now cost €25, down 17pc from its previous price of €30. Meanwhile a 20kg bag will now cost €35, down 13pc.
Baggage fees on three-hour plus flights will remain the same, with 15kg bags costing €40 and 20kg bags costing €50.
Ryanair chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs said the changes were implemented as part of the airline's 'Always Getting Better' programme.
"Over 92pc of our customers will enjoy reduced bag fees and will pay the same price for checking-in a bag whether bought at the time of the initial booking or added to the booking, regardless of seasonality.
"Furthermore, customers will also be able to add bags to their bookings via the Ryanair app up to 3 hours before their scheduled time of departure.
"These bag changes are in addition to our best-in-class cabin bag allowance, offering 2 free carry-on bags, and we’ll continue to offer the biggest and best choice of destinations, with the most on-time flights and a fantastic onboard experience, as we grow our fleet, traffic and routes – and all on the lowest fares," Mr Jacobs said.
Ryanair's online fees, meanwhile, jump from €20 to €30 for 15kg bags (33pc), and from €25 to €40 (58pc) for longer routes to Greece and the Canaries.
