A four-year-old girl remains in a critical condition after she was shot in the head with a bow and arrow

The girl was injured in her home in Halifax, West Yorkshire, but the police said they believed the incident was not intentional.

The force said an 18-year-old male was assisting them with their inquiries.

After being treated at the scene on Saturday afternoon, she was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance with a serious head injury and following surgery remains in a critical condition.

Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson said: "Inquiries are ongoing to determine precisely how this girl has come to be injured.

"Our investigations suggest she was not intentionally injured and an 18-year-old male is assisting us with our inquiries.

"Specially trained officers are working to support her family as our investigations continue."
