German international Bastian Schweinsteiger has paid tribute to one of the victims of the Berkeley balcony collapse.

Football fan Nick Schuster was one of six Irish students who tragically lost their lives in the accident in California earlier this week.

He was huge international football fan and he was big supporter Bayern Munich.

Last night, after friends of Schuster contacted Scweinsteiger, the German international took the time to post a heartfelt message to Nick and his grieving family and friends.

"Nick was a Bayern fan. His heart is still red and white. Bastian Schweinsteiger was his favorite player," his friend wrote on Facebook.

"I can't in words believe how grateful we would be all (the family and friends of Nick) if the Basti makes Instagram/Facebook post about Nick and sends a letter to the family."

The German talisman was quick to respond and shared the image of himself and Nick with the caption:

"The news makes me very sad. I wish much strength for this difficult time you, the family and all relatives of Nick.

"I would like to express my condolences also all other sufferers of this accident."
