Gardai treating the death of a man found as suspicious

The body of a man has been found at the rear of a house in Waterford city.

The man was discovered by gardai at approximately 2.30pm at the rear of the house in Francis Street, the Independent reported. 

An ambulance was called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai are treating the death of the man as suspicious. It is not yet known if the man was a resident at the address.

It is understood that the man is aged in his late 40s or early 50s.

His body remains at the scene and the office of the State Pathologist has been contacted.

The area has been sealed off for a technical examination.

A post mortem will be carried out tomorrow (March 20) at Waterford hospital.
