Gardai probe Dublin knife attack where man has face and head slashed
Gardaí are investigating a vicious knife attack in the city centre during which a man was slashed in the face and head.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Werburgh Street, near Christchurch in Dublin 2, shortly before 9pm this evening.
When they arrived they discovered a male, aged in his mid 20s, with serious injuries to his head.
A source said that the victim had received lacerations to his head and face.
However, the injured man was conscious and breathing when being treated by Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) paramedics.
The crime scene outside the Leo Burdocks chipper has been sealed-off pending a garda technical examination.
A number of officers from the Garda Armed Support Unit (ASU), who were patrolling in the area at the time, also responded to the call-out.
Gardaí remain at the scene and investigations are ongoing.
Officers from Pearse Street are also investigating a separate incident in the capital this evening during which a man was attacked in Temple Bar.
A knife was used in this incident, which occurred on Cope Street at approximately 6.30pm, but the victim's injuries are not believed to be serious.
