Gardai have arrested a man in connection with the terrifying shoot out that happened on Saturday morning in Greystones.

Gardaí in Bray investigating the incident have arrested a 34 year old man.

He is currently detained at Bray Garda station under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who were in the Farrankelly area of Greystones between 10.00am and 12 midday on Saturday and may have seen an 08 Audi A4 saloon or white/off white Transit Van to contact them on 01-6665300, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

The incident unfolded around 11am on the Farrankelly Road in Greystones, Co Wicklow on Saturday morning.

Reports said that a chase between a 4x4 and a van was under way when occupants from one of the vehicles began shooting at the other.

As the incident unfolded bullets hit the car of an innocent passer-by, who was not connected to the incident.

It is believed that links to drug gangs are being explored.

As we reported at the weekend, locals said they saw two men fighting in the street before the gun battle broke out.
