Gardai have confirmed that an ambulance was struck by a car in an incident in Louth this afternoon.

Just before 3.30pm this afternoon a red/wine coloured car collided with an ambulance and the driver of the car immediately fled the scene of the collision on foot.

He ran in the direction of Ballsgrove via the pedestrian entrance to the estate from the monument at the Ballsgrove Dual Carriageway.

Two further ambulances attended the scene and treated both paramedics and the patient who were in the ambulance involved in the collision.

All three have been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not life threatening.

Traffic diversions were put in place by Gardaí while emergency services were at the scene. These diversions have now been lifted.

The ambulance and the offending vehicle have been removed for technical and forensic examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone with any information to contact Drogheda Garda station on 041 9874200.
