Gardai investigation as teen pedestrian passes away after being involved in collision

An 18-year-old female pedestrian was pronounced dead late last night after being involved in a serious collision yesterday evening.

The young woman was left with serious injuries following the crash, which occurred in County Mayo yesterday evening. 

Gardai in Castlebar have launched an investigation into the collision, which happened at Carrownurlaur, Breaffy, Castlebar at approximately 5pm. 

The female pedestrian was seriously injured after being involved in the collisio on the Castlebar to Claremorris Road (N60). 

Emergency services were called and she was rushed to taken to Mayo General Hospital where her condition was described as serious.

However, Gardai confirmed the young woman last night passed away at the hospital at approximately 11.30pm. 

The 83-year-old driver of the vehicle and a male passenger were also taken to hospital as a precaution. 

The road was closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination but has since since reopened.
