Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was discovered late last night.

Officers in Louth are investigating the death of the man in the Dundalk area at approximately 11pm.

Reports suggest the man was discovered after gardai were called to the Readypenny Inn in Ardee where the man had collapsed. A function had been taking place at the time, gardai said.

The 73-year-old man, a publican, was found after falling ill at the end of the night.

Emergency services were called but the man was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports suggest the man had possibly been involved in a row earlier in the night as gardai had received a public order call at the site.

However, gardai are not treating his death as suspicious at this time.

A spokespersons said it "does not appear to be any criminality associated with this death."

A post-mortem is due to be undertaken later today.

The scene has been closed off by gardai but no arrests have been made.
