Gardai are investigating a fatal road collision in which a motorcyclist was killed.

An investigation is being launched following the fatal collision which occurred at Lehinch, Hollymount, County Mayo yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 1.30pm, a 55-year-old man suffered fatal injuries when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van on the R331 between Claremorris and Hollymount. 

Emergency services were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Mayo General Hospital where a post mortem is to be arranged. 

The driver of the van was also taken to Mayo General Hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who was travelling on the R331 between Hollymount and Claremorris, between 1pm and 1.30pm, to contct them at Claremorris Garda Station on 094 9372080, the Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
