Gardaí investigate whether man found with serious head injuries was victim of 'hit and run'
Gardai are investigating a possible hit and run which has left a man in a serious condition in hospital in Dublin overnight.
The victim was discovered with serious head injuries on a roadway around two kilometres from Loughshinny near Skerries in north county Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services, including gardaí and the Dublin Fire Brigade, attended the scene and the man was brought to hospital.
Gardaí in Balbriggan are investigating if the man was the victim of a hit-and-run.
Some broken glass and plastic from a car was found at the scene, leading to initial speculation that the victim may have been hit by a car that failed to stop at the scene.
Gardai sealed off a section of the roadway and the grass area where the man was found with serious head injuries.
Garda forensic collision investigators are carrying out an assessment of the area.
A pile of blankets and clothing could be seen at the scene, but people living in the immediate vicinity said they had not been aware of the incident until this morning.
One local woman said she thought she heard a bang outside sometime between 1am and 2am, but said she did not leave the house to investigate it.
