Gardai are investigating a possible link between the man who was killed in a head-on collision with a truck this morning and an alleged violent incident earlier in the day.

The crash happened at 8.30 this morning on the N24 one mile from Brooks Bridge, on the Tipperary side of Pallasgreen on the main Limerick to Tipperary and it claimed the life of the man, who was driving, and a young male child who was also in the car.

Gardai are now looking into an alleged incident in a house near the crash scene earlier in the day where a woman, his former partner, sustained injuries to see if they are connected.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision investigators and local diversions are in place.

The road will remain closed well into the afternoon.
