Gardaí are seeking witnesses to a serious assault that happened in the capital at about 4am this morning.

According to Gardai, the incident happened in Harold's Cross, on the southside of the city.

At 4am gardai and the emergency services were called to an incident outside Park View Apartments, Harold’s Cross.

A 57 year old man was discovered injured in what Gardaí believe to have been an assault.

The suspect may have left the scene in the direction of Terenure and Gardaí are examining CCTV in the area and carrying out door to door enquiries.

The injured man is in a serious condition in St James' Hospital.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the Harold’s Cross area of Dublin between 3.30am and 4am this morning to contact them at Rathmines Garda Station on 01 666 6700.
