Gardai appeal for witnesses following last night’s fatal car crash
Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a 45-year-old male pedestrian was hit and killed by a car at Grallagh, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo, at 11:50pm last night.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Mayo General Hospital for Post Mortem examination.
The victim's horse had been killed in an earlier incident when it was hit by a vehicle and local sources say the man was in the process of moving the dead animal from the scene with another man when he was struck by an oncoming car.
No other persons were injured.
The scene of the incident is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and traffic diversions are in place.
The local Coroner has been notified.
