Garda investigation launched after death of woman discovered with head injuries
Gardai are investigating the sudden death of a woman who was discovered with head injuries overnight.
The woman (54) was discovered in a critical condition in Cavan town overnight.
At approximately 6.35am, gardai attended the scene of the incident outside an apartment at Kempton Court, Cavan town where emergency services were treating a woman for serious head injuries.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Her body has now been moved to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth.
A post-mortem will be carried out this afternoon by Dr Michael Curtis, Deputy State Pathologist.
The scene is preserved for a forensic and technical examination.
An incident room has been established at Cavan garda station. while a garda Family Liaison officer has been appointed in the case.
It is believed that the woman is originally from Eastern Europe.
The course of the investigation will be determined by the outcome of the post-mortem examination.
Investigating gardai are appealing to anyone who was in the Kempton Court or Drumalee areas of Cavan town between 3am and 7am to contact them.
