Two men in their 20s have been arrested after a number of incidents in north Dublin, one of which involved a garda car being rammed.

Gardai from Ballymun are investigating a number of incidents in the Glasnevin/Whitehall area which occurred in the early hours of the morning.

It is understood that two men attempted to gain entry to a house in Whitehall but failed to do so.

A short time later it is believed the same men attempted to break into a shop in the Santry area but were again unsuccessful.

At approximately 6am, Gardaí observed the suspects in a black 4X4 vehicle on Hillcrest Park in Glasnevin.

They signalled the vehicle to stop which it failed to do so so they pursued the vehicle.

Garda units followed the 4X4 onto Glasnevin Park when it rammed a Garda patrol car and sped from the scene.

A member of An Garda Síochána was injured following the incident. His injuries are not serious, a spokesperson said.

He is believed to have suffered a broken arm or hand in the incident.

In a follow-up operation, Gardaí intercepted the same vehicle in the Ashbourne area of County Meath at approximately 6.45am.

Two men in their 20s were arrested and are currently detained at Ashbourne Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
