Fr Ted star Frank Kelly has passed away
Actor Frank Kelly has passed away aged 77.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Bairbre, 7 children and 17 grandchildren.
Kelly battled bowel cancer but got the all clear in 2011, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was admitted to hospital in 2015.
The thespian passed away on the 18th anniversary of the death of his Fr Ted co-star Dermot Morgan.
The veteran of stage and screen was well-known for his parts on Emmerdale and Halls Pictorial Weekly, but his iconic role in the Fr Ted sitcom in the mid 90s brought him to a huge audience
The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed
The 77-year-old revealed last year that he had been suffering from Parkinson's Disease.
The diagnosis came after he was hospitalised earlier in the year with heart failure.
At the time, he said: “It was my first diagnosis but I’m quietly confident that I have had this for years and years.”
He vowed to continue working and late last year released his memoir ‘The Next Gig.’
Kelly was previously diagnosed with bowel cancer, but received the all clear in 2011 after a five year battle with the disease.
