Met Eireann say we may see some snow on higher ground over the weekend

The weather has taken a cooler turn this week and we may even see some snow over the weekend.

According to Met Eireann temperatures will dip close to freezing tonight, with the eastern side of the country set to feel the chill more than the west.

Tomorrow will see heavy showers spread from the Atlantic across the country, while there will be gusty winds too.

Friday night will also be cold, with temperatures set to be between 1 and 5 degrees and that will lead into a cool, but largely sunny Saturday.

Sunday is when we may see some snowfall, with heavy showers on the west coast at risk of turning 'wintry' on higher ground.

Those showers will spread across the county on a cold day, with the mercury never getting into double digits.

Monday morning could see another dusting of snow on higher ground in the east, with more frost and ice across the country on another bright but chilly day.

If you haven't dusted off your winter gear yet, we advise you get it ready as soon as you can.
