A Donegal farmer has died following a suspected bull attack, authorities have said.

The man, who is in his 60s, was found dead this morning in a field in Burt by his brother.

He was discovered after failing to return home to the house they shared together.

The victim, named locally as Patrick Dows (65), had been out inspecting fields at the time.

Gardai were alerted to the incident at approximately 2.30pm today and have sealed off the area where the body was found. His body remained at the scene this afternoon.

Authorities said another man was injured during the incident. He was brought to Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.

The Health and Safety Authority has been notified of the incident and said an investigation will be launched.

"Everyone is in total shock," said one neighbour who knew the dead man well.

"It appears he was charged by a bull. He died there in the field."
