The family of a suspected shoplifter who died after he was apprehended by a security guard have paid tribute to him.

Kieran Church, 30, suffered a "significant injury" when glass bottles he was concealing smashed when he was tackled by the 20-year-old security guard in Trowbridge, Wiltshire on February 9.

Mr Church, of no fixed address, died at the scene of the incident in the car park of The Shires shopping centre.

In a short statement released by Wiltshire Police, his family said: "Kieran was a much-loved son, brother, grandson and friend to many. He will be sadly missed."

The security guard, who was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, has been released on bail until May.

Last week said Mr Church was suspected of committing a number of shoplifting offences in the town and he was apprehended by the security guard.
